The Power of "We Are the World" in Today's Classroom
Today, I decided to embark on a unique journey with my students – a musical dive into the heart of global unity through the song, "We Are the World". It's always awe-inspiring how art has the unparalleled power to unite individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, bridging gaps and fostering understanding.
The inclusion of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in today's teaching pedagogy proves how the traditional classroom has metamorphosed into a dynamic learning environment. With the digital tools at our disposal, the lesson was not just a lecture but an interactive session where visuals and audios enhanced the learning experience.
To my delight, as the melody echoed in the classroom, I could see the spark of intrigue in the eyes of my students. The familiar tunes, for many, were now backed with a deeper understanding of its historical and social context. And it wasn't long before hands went up, with students eager to know more about the legend behind the song, Michael Jackson.
Their inquisitiveness about Jackson's songs and his contribution to the world of music was palpable. I was thrilled to see such enthusiasm, given that for many of these young minds, Michael's prime was way before their time. It speaks volumes about the timeless nature of true art.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a compelling entry activity. Amidst the cacophony of sounds and distractions from nearby classes, the right introductory exercise can work wonders. Today, it served as an anchor, drawing in the students' attention, and setting the stage for a fruitful lesson.
In the grand scheme of things, today was a testament to the undeniable impact of arts in education. In a world often divided by differences, it's comforting to know that there are melodies, paintings, and words that remind us of our shared humanity.
And as Michael Jackson's voice serenaded us with the lyrics, "We are the world, we are the children", it's a gentle reminder that it's upon us, the educators, to instill in our students the values of unity, understanding, and compassion.
